2018 Campaign for the promotion of Spanish dehydrated alfalfa ends with great success


2018 was a year full of opportunities for the Spanish dehydrated alfalfa in China, thanks to the ICEX-AEFA promotion campaign, but also to the US-China trade war. The campaign organized and participated in a series of promotional activities, such as the Chengdu Dairy Fair, the Buyers and Professionals Mission to Spain in summer, the experts’ visit to China, etc. These activities have had a very positive impact on the promotion and export of Spanish dehydrated alfalfa to China.

From January to October 2018, Spain exported 194,000 tons to China, with a total value of 39.8 million euros. Compared to the same period of 2017, exports increased by 241% in weight and 280% in value. Due to increased demand and good export growth, Spain’s alfalfa planting area is expected to increase by 15% in 2019.
