Spain has exported 115 thousand tonnes worth USD 26.7 millions in 2018 so far (Jan-Aug), which represents an spectacular increase of 127% in quantity and 159% in value compared to the same period last year. This outstanding performance of the Spanish alfalfa in China is partially motivated by the promotional campaign of this product in China, implemented by Eibens Consulting with the support of AEFA – Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Dehydrated Alfalfa and ICEX.
As part of this campaign, we are delighted to work with world class alfalfa experts Pablo Llorente Sánchez and Francisco Javier Giráldez García in a one-week tour across several locations in China, from 22nd to 26th October. They will meet with fellow experts at the Shanghai Dairy Industry Association, China Agricultural University and Tianjin Animal Science and Veterinary Research Institute; and will provide on-site support to Bright Dairy’s staff and their milk suppliers on how to optimize the use of the Spanish dehydrated alfalfa in dairy cattle. This Shanghai-based multinational company is one of the top players in their industry.
One of the highlights of the week will be the participation on Hesitan’s conference on the current situation of the Chinese and imported fodder, focusing on alfalfa and oats. Hesitan is the country’s leading private organisation and publication for fodder and dairy production. The conference will also feature speakers from the China Animal Agriculture Association (part of China Grassland Association), Beijing Sunlon Livestock, China Forage & Grassland Research System, Modern Farming and the University of California Davis, among others.
On Friday, experts will visit a farm in Hebei province to support their nutritionists and staff to feed Spanish alfalfa to their 18,000 dairy cattle. That afternoon, a live on-site training will be streamed to other farms across the country, representing a new milestone for the development of the Spanish alfalfa in China.
